Tampa’s locals are commonly referred to as Tampanians or Tampans. The arrival of newcomers such as Cuban, Italian or Spanish immigrants began in the early 1800s and was known as Tampines.

Tampa’s mayor Pam Iorio redeveloped the downtown of Tampa, including several housing sites. Another initiative by the Mayor was the Tampa Riverwalk, a city route along the Hillsborough River.
Tampa is a multi-skyscraper town. To date, 18 finished houses with an elevation of more than 250 feet have been built. The town also has 69 high rises, making it rank second in the Florida state after Miami.
Tampa’s tallest building is known as 100 North Tampa, the 42-story,579-foot Amsouth building in downtown Tampa. The Sulfur Springs Water Tower is a city’s renowned landmark from the 1920s.
The Tampanians also experienced the building of Movie Palace, Tampa Theater, a Mediterranean revival on Davis Islands and Bay-shore Boulevard bordering Downtown Tampa’s Hillsborough Bay.
A 6-mile road on the east end is the world’s longest and constant. The Italian club at 1731 east 7th Avenue in Ybor City has a mission of preserving and honoring the Italian community’s culture, traditions, and heritage and also preserving the historic building as a monument to Italian immigrants.
